What is ImPACT testing? ImPACT testing is a software tool to evaluate cognitive recovery following a concussion. The test is done on a computer at Central Pediatrics and takes approximately 45 minutes. It is available for children age 10 and above, and is done at our Woodbury location.
How should ImPACT testing be used? A baseline test should be done in the preseason time period. This will provide a summary of the athlete's normal results for later comparison following an injury. In the absence of head injuries, a baseline test should be repeated every 2 years and then once in college. If an injury does occur, a test should be done after the injury. Repeat testing should occur every 1-2 weeks until the results match that of the baseline test. If you take ADHD medication, be sure to take it on the day of your test.
How much does the test cost? Baseline ImPACT testing is not covered by your insurance company. The cost of the test is $25.00. Follow-up testing may be covered by insurance.
